Early years

Originally, local VHF channel 11 in Metropolitan Manila was a joint venture of two religious groups in the Philippines; the Jesus Is Lord Church of Eddie Villanueva and El Shaddai of Mike Velarde. However, dispute over the ownership of the station arises and leads to a congressional franchise given to Eddie Villanueva. In early years, Zoe Broadcasting Network produces programs mostly in religious content until in 1999, Zoe Broadcasting Network entered an agreement with Entertainment Network (Enternet) to rebroadcast parts of CNBC Asia programming for its morning and afternoon block until the arrangement ended in 2000.

On November 11, 2005, GMA Network Inc. entered a memorandum of agreement with the owners of Zoe Broadcasting Network and leased the airtime of its flagship station, DZOE and launches Quality Television (QTV) on local VHF channel 11, in exchange of network's facilities upgrade and airing of its locally produced programs. On March 18, 2007, Quality Television was rebranded to Q focusing on lifestyle programming. On May 29, 2010, Q expanded its programming to cater male audiences. On February 7, 2011, GMA Network Inc. announced plans to launch an all news and lifestyle oriented channel in the Philippines and transformed its Q network into a news channel. On February 20, 2011, Q ceased commercial operation and started the test trial of GMA News TV. On February 28, 2011, GMA Network Inc. officially launched its news channel.

Programming

Initially, GMA News TV offers a mixture of programming lineup up to 20 hours of airing per day (broadcast will start at 5:00 AM, PST, UTC+8), in addition to local programs and contents previously aired on Q, GMA News TV will continue to air programs produced by Zoe Broadcasting Network. Most programs will be transmitted from its news headquarters in Quezon City at the GMA Network Center located at the corner of Epifanio delos Santos and Timog avenues, while its recorded programs will be broadcast from its GMA Network Studios in GMA Network Drive and GMA Broadway Centrum in Aurora Boulevard, also in Quezon City. While programs produced by Zoe Broadcasting Network will be broadcast on its studios at the 22nd Floor, Strata 2000 Building, Emerald Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. Part of its live broadcast will also be aired on local AM radio station DZBB, relay and affiliate radio stations in the Philippines.

GMA Network Inc. announced that it will launch GMA News TV International in third quarter of 2011[4] and will be also available through satellite and cable TV systems worldwide. It would be the third international channel of GMA Network Inc., together with GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV.[5] On July 14, 2011, GMA Network Inc. announced that GMA News TV International is current available on a preview channel basis in Australia via FetchTV, IPS/AccessTV in Japan, GUdTV in Guam and soon in Singapore and Middle East available through satellite Orbit Showtime.; and it is set to launch in the third quarter of 2011.[6][7][8]
